I tried Singapore's very own Shake Shack - BBurger Review

Before we get started, if you're not a fan of delicious, fresh, burgers then you better close this window real quick cause it's about to go down. Hailed as Singapore's own Shake Shack, the hype was real when BBurger announced that it was opening it's doors. Located in the heart of Orchard, Cineleisure, the shop couldn't have a more enviable location. Decked out in tropical palm leaves motives and fresh hues, the store's bright and airy interior is as inviting as their growingly legendary burger

Before we even get down and dirty with the burgers however, let's talk about their side dishes. First thing first, I think BBurger gets pretty much an A+ in creativity. While they can go ahead and serve favourites like skinny french fries or wedges, they've taken it up a notch and serve some really creative options.

The one that "wing" my affection is of course the Chicken Wings with Sriracha Mayo ($7.90) Now I know from the internet that Sriracha sauce is some kind of magic sauce but I never really thought much of it. But the combination with mayo and delicious deep fried chicken definitely won me over. But then again anything that resembles a deep fried chicken wins my heart, so what do I know.

If wings are not your jam, well get out! (just kidding) fret not because BBurger is about to wow you with their selections of french fries. We indulged ourselves in their popular french fries, Truffle Fries ($5) and Curry Cheese Fries ($5). Now while one might argue that truffle fries has been done to death these days, this one is definitely a crowd pleaser and very generous in their sauce serving. The Curry Cheese Fries are equally memorable, though slightly more indulgent.

These reminds me of those iconic french fries that I always see in American TV shows, and it didn't really disappoint in taste. Another side dish that we ordered is the Wafu Ramen Slaw ($3), I was honestly that close to order the Nacho soup but I was glad that I chose this in the end. I've honestly never tried anything like this before. The closest thing that I can think of is a coleslaw that has been pimped up by mamee noodles. It was fresh, it was delicious, it was original. I loved that it serves almost as a palate cleanser after each bite of the burger.

Now to the main event, the BBurger well, burgers. If you follow the BBurger instagram account (@bburger.sg), you'll notice that they often run out of their burger patties. That's because they make them fresh everyday! Rather than packing and storing like other burger joints, BBurger produces limited amount of their patties to ensure their consistency in freshness. We decided to order three different types of burgers, B Supreme and The Baller Burger (both $11.90) as well as the Bom Chicka Wow Wow burger ($10.90). Price and size wise, it equals the McDonald's premium range of burgers. Taste wise however they couldn't be further apart.

A measure of a good patty is often how much it crumbles when you take a bite, other than how juicy it is. I have to say, BBurger definitely delivers in the "freshness" territory. The patty was perfectly cooked, I often find that most burger patties are overcooked, but this one was done close to a "medium" in steak terms. The particular burger that I tasted, The B Supreme, had beef patty, sauteed mushroom, aged cheddar, truffle mayo, and caramalized onions. Now while this combination sounds simple, I assure you the flavours were complex and layered. Though I find that the truffle mayo is quite subtle, in this case it worked because it didn't overwhelm the beef patty and aged cheddar. My other two friends tried the other two burgers and loved it as well.

Overall, I definitely loved our experience at BBurger. The taste and size of the burgers definitely justifies the price. I think that BBurger has strike a perfect balance of beautiful instagramable food with an overwhelmingly delicious taste. I hope they continue to experiment with different flavours and create new burgers while staying true to their freshness promise. Will I come back again? Definitely. Will I call them Singapore's Shake Shack? Hell yes.
